Why join BYOB?

The BYOB customer does not come to drink the wine on your list. They bring a special bottle — old, rare, a gift, from their own cellar — or they come with their wine society or for a producer tasting. Without BYOB, this customer simply would not have come. The corkage fee and everything they order at the table are extra revenue.

🎁 A gifted bottle or one for a special occasion 🍷 Collector's or cellar-aged wine 🏛️ Wine society and wine club dinners 🧑‍🌾 Producer tastings and wine dinners
➕ Extra revenue, at no costThe corkage fee is pure margin: you don't buy the wine, store it or risk it sitting unsold.
👥 New customersWine lovers looking for a place to open their bottles. BYOB.pt brings them to you — often in groups and on quieter days.
🍽️ Full tables and good foodSomeone bringing a special bottle wants a meal to match: starters, mains, desserts, coffees.
🛡️ Your wine list is protectedBYOB rule: customers may not bring wines that are on your list.
❤️ LoyaltyWine lovers return to places that treat them well — and recommend them to friends and to their wine society.
⭐ Stand outThere are still few BYOB restaurants in Portugal. Stand out in your area.

What could it be worth to you?

Net corkage fee per bottle (excl. 23 % VAT)—
Corkage revenue per month—
Meal revenue from these customers per month (incl. VAT)—
Total billed to BYOB customers per year—

The Portuguese Tax Authority treats the corkage fee as a service at the standard rate. A €10 fee leaves the restaurant €8.13; an €8 fee leaves €6.50. The calculator already does this sum. Rates for mainland Portugal; the Azores and Madeira have their own rates.

Recommended BYOB rules

Reference amounts in Europe: €4 to €8 in traditional restaurants, €15 to €20 in fine-dining restaurants. Each restaurant sets its own fee freely.

How it works for the restaurant

  1. The customer finds your restaurant on the BYOB.pt map
  2. They book using the phone number on your listing and say they are bringing wine
  3. They bring their bottle — a collector's wine, a gift or for a tasting
  4. Your restaurant serves it with the right glasses and temperature
  5. You charge the corkage fee and the meal — revenue that didn't exist before
